I could see this getting an errata too. I feel like the thought was you could only get two triggers from Nadu effect period. Not two each creature. That dramatically checks the power of this card, but leaves it useful.

I consider OTJ as more leaning onto the heist movie trope rather than cowboys. I would have been less shocked seeing George Clooney on an OTJ card than John Wayne.

I think my big issue with sets like this is that its all just more and more references to other things. I don't want references to other things. I love magic for what they were able to create in flavor and gameplay. We have lost that flavor going to all these new places. Now it just feels like Ready Player One fantasy edition on cardboard. There are so many interesting stories to tell and so many cool fantasy places we can explore. We aren't creating new memories, we are just subsisting on all of our old ones.

It's only one card in a deck of 99. Why would I play it and hope for it most games when I can put in any other card that has similar cards that form a pseudo playset (or better). 🤷🏼‍♂️ Plus it seems to urk you and that means I am fine with saving the playset of Revised edition I have owned since Revised was on shelves for 60 card decks

I think i can come at this from a very different perspective as someone who very recently got into magic after having playing Yugioh competitively for years. The draw of MTG for me compared to Yugioh is the fact that it has a large cassual scene, and rich lore, 2 things that are very lacking in yugioh. The cassual scene (refering to commander) isnt changed by this, but the lore part is. Comming from a game where every archetype is like a new thing usually not fitting into any context, its refreshing to see a game where you can actually imagine the universe around the card. The fact that in a cassual commander game, someones army of knights could suddenly have like an optimus prime pop up, or as you show here a modern television is the type of thing that almost stopped me from trying magic at all, and its still one of the things that makes me unsure if there is enough of a draw in this game to make me stick with it. From an outsider, the lore and worldbuilding was part of the appeal, especially when i was looking for a game to not just play competitively.

Now I get how people felt during og Kamigawa. Champions of Kamigawa didn't feelt too off to me. Altough there were Orochi I liked and those I thought looked weird. I do have the issue that things feel too modern in that set tbh. And I had the same issue with most Jurassic Park cards. I simply don't get the cards that I feel too unfitting for my decks. Everyone can do what they want. But well when I went to EDH when I first started I basicly had to explain every Kamigawa card because there were lots of people who never seen a single og Kamigawa card. Simply because they skipped the set. So don't expect people to know the cards of such sets.

Magic players should look into YGO to prepare for what the future of Magic will be: Power Creep with every set to drive sales, broken staples won't be banned until they are out of print, etc. From what I gather, in YGO almost every set is a modern horizons like set that mostly consists of new takes on old cards. Cards are not collectible for their utility but rarity. The parallels are there.

I don't know how you can live in a world with magic and eldritch being trapped in moons and see a tv and be like "yep that's sucked me out of it, No way that could exist here" Like bro? Not even mentioning techno-wizardry which replaces technological mechanical components of things with magic and makes them run on magic in stead of electricity. They have flying juggernauts and city levelling machines but real existing technology oh that's a step too far.

As a person who has some affection for the Urban Fantasy subgenre, like with the World of Darkness, I don't see modern technology and aesthetics as incompatible with Magic. It's a valid way of approaching fantasy, that has been used for as long as Fantasy has existed. Indeed, there's an argument to be made that Fantasy stories occurring in a secondary world was an _outlier_ for hundreds of years, with it being a very modern thing. It's only with works aping Tolkien that we got this hard adherence to Medieval Stasis. Even works from the 20th century, like pulp stories, D&D, and even Magic itself freely mixed Fantasy and Sci Fi, because the division between them has ALWAYS been artificial. If there exists Magic planes that skew more towards a retro modernist aesthetic with its Fantasy, that's fine. That's not ACTUALLY a problem. So long as these things don't bleed out into the other planes and dilute _their_ aesthetics. No one wants a TV showing up in Eldraine, for example. (This kind of silo-ing was a lot easier to do in earlier Magic, where only Planeswalkers could run around between planes. An unforced error on WotC's part, I think.) I think my main gripe, if anything, is how WotC wants to have their cake and eat it, too. Quick as they are to explain that the TVs or flashlights in Duskmourn are just specialized anti-supernatural equipment, rather than repurposed modern technology. Or the presence of the _stupid_ magical punch-daggers from Thunder Junction. Where they want to ape the aesthetics of these genres, but feel embarrassed about _actually_ including things like TVs or firearms in their game. So they come up with replacements, that just underscore how artificial the whole endeavor is. It breaks the illusion that these are internally consistent worlds, and shows it's all just reusing tropes for their own sake. (But shittier, because they refuse to commit. Just give your cowboys guns, WotC.)

Fun card but why not the chainsaw, the shotgun or like others have said grimoire of the dead? Seems like such a waste. Secret lairs of cool IPs are fun but sometime i wonder how much a fan of the ip the designers of the cards are when they miss obvious choices such as these.

Personally, when I say "Magic is dead", I guess what I really mean is "Magic is dead for me". I still enjoy hearing people talking about it, but playing is just not really fun for me anymore.

I think its kind of silly we draw the line at an 80s TV but for some reason NInjas and Samurais are totally okay in our magic slinging fantasy land.

The reason behind latest Standard sets looking so uninspiring is because they basically only exist to advertise collabs with more and more franchises. Magic(tm) is no longer it's own thing but a platform for collaborations.

The only thing that could potentially save Duskmourn for me is the reveal that the plane itself is a post- apocalyptic Earth that was destroyed somewhere around the 80s and all that's left is the haunted technology of that era. Then again, WotC doesn't have the most competent of writers so I doubt that they would pull off such a bold move.

I think the pace at which WOTC is putting out new sets is making it difficult to keep a coherent storyline. They don’t even have enough time to properly review new mechanics and balance them: Nadu. They obviously don’t have any time to focus on storylines 🤷🏻‍♂️

Arranging land to scare opponents is one of my favorites. I'll leave 1 or 2 blue up when possible even if I don't have a counter or keep a single white separate from the rest even if I don't have a swords/path. Sometimes ill audibly remind myself to keep a particular colour up. If someone asks what I have for blocks, I'll say something like "open mana". When they mention my untapped land I don't oversell it, just a simple "yes, I do" is usually enough to spook them. At least 2/3 of the time I'm bluffing and I ain't got shit, and people who know me know that I do that, but they still have to play like I have their greatest fear in hand.😂

The real horror is sindicated television, thats why all the tvs are haunted… Set both looks like shit and looks amazing in the most disappointing way possible

This part of Magic changed a long time ago, moreover, we've seen it doesn't matter what's on the card, people will still buy them. If people want to be mad, be mad about card design and all the terrible ways Wizards sells us things.

The real issue is how easy it is to target creatures in mtg. They should be banning all the broken cards like Snakeskin veil that can target for just 1 green. nadu is not the problem, instants, sorcs, and equipments are the problem and they should be banned

See here the thing. This set recently had a special reprint not too long ago. There’s no reason they’d want to reprint it again after that since technically that special edition one, tanked it’s normal set for a while there. I just hope people understand that these multiverse sets aren’t normal mtg sets and some really good cards in them, have a chance at becoming very expensive. This is very much a thing.

Nadu is so insane you are seeing it dominate in every format it's legal. I sold mine because it's almost certainly going to get banned in commander. I don't see a world where it stays unbanned in any formats, it's too strong. People are not even playing it casually because everyone knows how insane it is to pull ahead for the entire game for 5 mana. Lightning greaves cost 2, so on turn 3 you can have a self-protecting resource that will start ramping you and drawing cards. It can be played in virtually any deck and make that deck stronger but since the card doesn't do anything outright on its own, you can end up taking 10 minute turns to need to pass and do it again the next turn. It's fucked.

So we can have artifacts powered by magic that can destroy an entire plane but a random TV somewhere it's a step too far?
